Abstract

The relationship between revenue and expenditure of government has attracted a lot of interest particularly with respect to budget deficits. The goal of this paper is to investigate evidence for causality between Punjab government receipts and expenditure within a trivariate framework by modeling them together with gross state domestic product (GSDP). The study uses the annual time series data. The data are analyzed to determine its stationary using Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) unit root test. The four schools of thoughts have been included in this paper on the basis of vast literature available about this relation. Our application of the Toda and Yamamoto (1995) test for Granger causality reveals support for the "institutional separation" hypothesis for Punjab state. On the other hand, there is a strong bidirectional causality relationship between total expenditure and GSDP of Punjab state. Similarly, the evidence of bidirectional causality relation between state government receipts and GSDP of Punjab is found.

Abstract

This paper aims to empirically examine the reaction of Indian stock market towards demonetization with special reference to BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty. Demonetization has been one of the major moves of Government of India, which was initiated to curb black money and to ensure the digital financial inclusion in the country. This step has affected several sectors of the economy and one of the major sectors that have seen huge volatility during this period of demonetization is Indian stock market. Several studies have explored the fluctuations in Indian stock market against various micro and macro factors of the economy; however, there is a dearth of statistical evidence on the effect of recent demonetization on it. Hence, the present study is an attempt to explore the reaction of stock market during the period of demonetization in India. For the purpose of this study, the data on BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty has been collected for 45 days pre and 45 days post demonetization period, i.e. 1st September to 8th November 2016 and 9th November, 2016 till 12th January 2017. Further, the returns are computed for both the indices. Using Independent sample t test and Mann Whitney Wilcoxon test, the study exhibits a significant difference in the values of pre and post demonetization in both Sensex as well as Nifty. However, no significant results are obtained for pre and post demonetization returns on these indices. This shows that although Sensex and Nifty have significantly fluctuated due to this event, yet the overall returns have remained unaffected. The findings of this study have fruitful implications for investors, companies, and market at large.

Abstract

The informal sector in specific is mostly affected by demonetization move, as significant proportions of the transactions are made using cash. Against this backdrop, the current paper aimed to comprehend the view point of retailers and customers on demonetization move, and its impact on their adoption of cashless transaction in Indian unorganized retail context. This objective is accomplished through gathering data using structured questionnaire from sixty retailers and sixty customers through qualitative interviews in Uttar Pradesh State, India. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to test the proposed model for the retailer's data and Fish Bone Model was developed for customer's data. Findings from retailers view point indicated that , awareness on perceived benefits, impact on business, human capital and level of profits to be significantly predicting the adoption of cashless transactions. Further, when Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) Ownership & Usage is included to the above variables, the prediction was improved. ICTs ownership and usage was found to have a limited impact on adoption of cashless transactions. The qualitative findings from customers view point revealed that factors related to retailers, Government, level of expertise and buyers (customers) restrained them from adapting to cashless modes of payments. Information from this study aids retailers, Government and also customers in understanding the impact on such move. This study explored the hardly researched area, as the facts are unclear, and further the impact of such a move would vary in its extent, type of public and geographical area.

It was found that high performance work systems have a strong negative influence on employee withdrawal behaviors. The present paper is divided into six sections wherein the first section consists of a brief introduction of the variables under study. The second section of the paper covers the review of literature which consists research studies of high performance work system and employee deviant behavior. Third section comprises of research methodology which includes the formulated hypotheses, data collection and sampling. The fourth section consists of data analysis and interpretation and the fifth section covers the findings and discussions of the study. Abstract

This paper is inspired by, and in part in responding to, a widely observed tendency that management research is predominantly built on quantitative research, and an accompanying general sentiment that qualitative research is oftentimes not worth taking seriously. In passionately depending its applications, we review some pertinent dialogues on quality and rigour of qualitative research which leads us to advocate a view that the final test for qualitative research is usefulness, reflected in its rigour in research processes passing the judgement of authority and validity to audience, rather than the quantitatively constructed concept of rigour in its findings.
